Annual Fall Color Hike & potluck

Trap Rock Chapter of the Ice Age Trail

The chapters fall color hike will be on October 26th at 1 PM. This easy 2 mile hike on the Trade River North segment from 150th street to the chapter shed on 140th street. The potluck will be at 2 PM. Non-hikers are welcome to join at that time. The chapter will provide sloppy joes, Mac and Cheese and beverages. Bring a dish to share and stories to tell.

Hikers should dress for the weather, bring sunscreen, insect repellent and a snack

Meet at the shed off 140th Str, we will shuttle over to 150th Str.

Intersections near the start of the hike will be marked with yellow IAT signs

LOOP AROUND BEAVER DAM LAKE (Group Bike Ride) & 50/50 RAFFLE DRAWING

Recap: Mother Nature blessed us with a perfect day for our bike around the lake. We started and ended our loop at Louie’s on the Lake where we held our 50/50 raffle drawing! Our winner of the $6,020 raffle drawing was Gabe Henk. Congratulations Gabe!!! Special thanks to Louie’s on the Lake for hosting and donating a gift card to one of our lucky participants.

On Saturday Oct 11th the Cumberland Area Trails Alliance is hosting a group bike ride and color tour around Beaver Dam Lake beginning at Louie’s on the Lake at 10 AM. This is a leisurely paced, free biking event and open to all ages!  Bikes, trikes and Ebikes are welcome!    After the ride, we will meet back at Louie’s on the Lake for food, drink and camaraderie.  Louie’s on the Lake is donating a $25 gift certificate for one of our lucky participants!!  We will be having our 50/50 raffle drawing in which one lucky winner will receive over $5,000 cash.  Half of the 50/50 raffle ticket sales go to our winner,  the other half are earmarked for funding of a lighted crosswalk at 5th Ave.  This crosswalk will provide a safe crossing for children coming down from the middle school and high school.  This crosswalk will also be an invaluable connection of our biking/walking routes!   The raffle ticket sales end on 10/10/25 so get your tickets NOW!  Tickets can be purchased on our website at www.CumberlandAreaTrailsAlliance.org , Louie’s Lodge, Comstock Cheese & Sausage, from one of our Board Members or by calling Laura Schmid-Tyler @ 989-329-9394.  ***Need NOT be present to win*** Rain Date:  October 25th

CATA Paddle Event

August 12, 2025 5:30 PM

Recap: We had 14 participants (Canoes, kayaks and paddle boards) We had great weather, listened to nice music at beautiful Tourist Park, paddled our hearts out against a challenging wind, enjoyed each others company, met new people and had some good eats at Nezzy's afterward! Mother Nature did not disappoint!! Thank you to Scoutland - Cumberland Area Friends of Scouting for lending us the canoes and equipment!

Event: !Meet us at the new dock/kayak launch behind the Mainstreet businesses on Library Lake between 5-5:30. Canoe, Kayak, or paddle board. We plan to paddle as a group through Rabbit Bay, around Eagle Point then on to Tourist Park and back. This is the last night of Island City Music in the park with the Hay River Sisters (6-8PM). This is a paddle at your own pace but no one will be left behind. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend. Scoutland will be supplying some extra canoes and lifejackets for those that don’t have one of their own. We can eat at Tourist Park and/or we can go to one of the Mainstreet eateries when we get back.

2nd Annual Scoutland Scramble 5K Fun Run/2.5K walk

Event starts: 9AM
Location: 900 Sylvan St. Cumberland WI

Co-Sponsor: Cumberland Area Friends of Scouting.

Course Route: The runners/walkers will start on the old railroad right of way north of town (now known as the The Depot Trail), Walkers will turn around at Hwy B back to starting line; the runners will cross hwy B and proceed through the beautiful forested trails of Scoutland and then return back to the starting line. See route in the map section for more information.

Participants will have the chance to win door prizes; Top female and male finishers will get first pick of the prizesl

Welcome to our “Unplug” Outside Walking Challenge

RECAP: The elementary kids enjoyed the challenge with weekly prize drawings. Our group was happy with the numbers participating and the excitement about it from the children. A big thank you to the elementary school staff who willing added to their already busy workloads to help make this happen!! The grand prize drawing was for a $20 gift card to the Cumberland DQ plus a free family pass for the Scoutland Scramble 5K Fun Run/ 2.5 K walk that took place on June 7th, 2025.

WHAT:  An outdoor walking challenge for an individual, family or group

HOW:  

ADULTS/MIDDLE OR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS:

Keep track of your miles in any way you like. You will receive one ticket for every 10 miles walked.  Please keep a running tally of your total miles and bonus tickets. Please email them to us at the event email address below by 6/1/25..  If your employer has signed up through their business, then please report your mileage/bonuses to HR to receive your tickets for the drawing. 

PRIZES:   Improved health, a sense of accomplishment, good competition, mental clarity AND all of your tickets put you in for a drawing for Cumberland Chamber bucks.  The drawing will take place at noon on 6/3/25 at the Cumberland Chamber office. You need not be present to win.

WAYS TO EARN BONUS TICKETS:  One bonus ticket available if you hike 7 days in a row; One if you are a beginner hiker;  One when you walk at a CATA or Ice Age Trail event.

PHOTOS: Send us a trail selfie or interesting picture of sights along the way. (Please email pictures to us at events@cumberlandareatrailsalliance.org to share on our website). Note: If children are included in the picture, we will need parental permission to share it on the website.

  • Individuals:  Please include your name and phone number in the email. 

  • Businesses: Please register at the above email address and contact the chamber at info@cumberlandchamberwi.com for your tickets.  Include number of employees participating in the email.  HR should keep a list of participating employee names.

Elementary School Kids:

Keep track of the days you either walk or bike to school or walk or bike after school. You will receive one ticket for every day you do either one. The ticket is for a drawing for a prize each week at Cumberland Elementary School. At the end of the seven weeks there will be grand prize drawing. Please keep in mind safety when you walk or bike.

Help us celebrate Earth day 4/22 and Arbor Day 4/25 by joining us for a group hike on the Ice Age Trail. We will start at the Timberland Hills Trailhead off of Boyd Road. Before or after the hike stop into the warming house for an opportunity to learn more about the Cumberland Area Trails Alliance, the Ice Age Trail, and the Timberland Hills Foundation.

After the hike, help support one of our local establishments by joining us out at the Timberland Hills Bar & Grill for apps, lunch and beverages! Enjoy a free drink with purchase of a meal.

  • Free spruce tree giveaway to all participants as supplies last

Walking Challenge

Matt logged a whopping 305 miles. One of his tickets was drawn on 3/4/25 at the Chamber of Commerce in Cumberland. He won $30 in Chamber Bucks! Congratulations Matt!!!

Scoutland Hike and Cookout

February 9th at noon

The Cumberland Area Trails Alliance (CATA) along with Louie’s Finer Meats and Scoutland are hosting a hike and cookout.

Meet us at the Scoutland entrance parking lot for a 1/4 mile walk to the lodge, from there explore Scoutland trails on foot snowshoe, or cross country ski.

Gnome hunt for a prize for the kids

Enjoy some of Louie’s dogs and fixings as well as a marshmallow roast & hot cocoa

This is a FREE event

RECAP: Scoutland and Mother Nature delivered a winter wonderland and Louie’s Finer Meats supplied the eats! We all had a wonderful time having everyone explore Scoutland (Cumberland’s hidden treasure) but we especially enjoyed seeing the smiling children hunt for gnomes and try out snowshoeing for the first time!!! Hope to see you all at our next event!!

New Year’s Day Walk:

January 1, 2025 at Noon

Start 2025 enjoying some fresh air and the company of your Cumberland “neighbors”. We will start our walk at Tourist Park and heading towards Eagle Point and Rabbit Island. Depending on the weather and how far you want to go, an estimated 1-3 mile walk is planned. All ages and abilities welcomed!!

RECAP….We had a great start to 2025! Eleven walkers showed up to walk from Tourist Park to Eagle point and then on to Rabbit Island. We met some great people and put on about 3 miles under our feet in the fresh air 😊

Hike/Snowshoe:

December 14th at 10AM

Hosted in conjunction with the Superior Lobe Chapter of the Ice Age Trail and Bear Lake Coffee

Meet us at 10AM at Bear Lake Coffee for food and drink. Followed by a family friendly, leisurely 2-3 mile out and back hike on the Ice Age Trail at 11AM. (Coffee/breakfast before or Lunch after available for purchase from Bear Lake Coffee).
Location:

Bear Lake Coffee 10 AM: 2980 US-63, Barronett

Ice Age Trail 11AM: Grassy Lake segment starting at Lehman Lake Rd/Shingle Camp Fire Lane; The hike will start heading to the east, Barronett

Successful Event: We first met at Bear Lake Coffee to enjoy a good breakfast, coffee and a give away drawing then 22 people & 2 dogs participated in the Ice Age Trail Hike. New and old friends had a chance to bond. Mother Nature cooperated by holding off on the freezing rain until later that day! Thank you to all who participated! We are looking forward to seeing you soon at future events! Prizes were donated by the Superior Lobe Chapter of the Ice Age Trail.
